dc.description.abstract | Background and design: We aimed to investigate the tuberculin reactions in psoriasis patients and healthy volunteers vaccinated with BCG. The difference between with the lesional and non-lesional skin was observed in psoriasis patients. Beside we assessed whether elicitation of tuberculin injection may be superior to trauma in inducing psoriasis lesions (Koebner's phenomenon). Materials and method: Twenty-five patients with psoriasis and 25 healthy volunteers participated in the study. All participants had been vaccinated with BCG before. Tuberculin solution was injected intradermally to healthy volunteers' skin, and psoriatic and non-psoriatic skin of psoriasis patients. Same amount of saline control solution was injected intradermally to the non-lesional skin of psoriasis patients. Subjects were re-examined at 72nd hours for tuberculin reactions, and at 1st, 2nd, 4th weeks for any developed new psoriasis lesion. Results: There was no statistically difference between the groups for Tuberculin reaction sizes (p=0.244). When lesional and non-lesional skin areas were compared in psoriatic patients, the reaction was found as decreased in lesional skin; also the difference was statistically significant (p<0.001). Conclusion: The tuberculin reactions in psoriatic patients are not different from healthy persons. But, the reaction is weaker at psoriasis lesions than normal skin in the same patient. Tuberculin injection is not effective in inducing Koebner's phenomenon in psoriasis. | en_US |
