Clinical and Histopathological Analysis of Premalignant and Malignant Lesions of Eyes and Adnexes Diagnosed in Our Clinic

Özet
Our aim is to perform clinicopathological analysis of premalignant and malignant lesions of the eye and adnexa diagnosed in a tertiary clinic. The files of the patients who underwent surgery and sent specimens to pathology laboratory at Inönü University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology between March 2010 and July 2020 were reviewed retrospectively. Demographic, clinical and histopathological data of cases with premalignant and malignant lesions were recorded. A total of 136 patients, 64 (47.1%) female and 72 (52.9%) male, were included in the study. The mean age of the patients was 73.6±14.7 (11-101) years. Premalignant lesions were detected in 58 patients (42.6%) and malignant lesions were detected in 78 patients (57.4%). The most common premalignant lesions were conjunctival or corneal intraepithelial neoplasia, carcinoma in situ, while the most common malignant lesions were basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and lymphoma. In our clinic, the most commonly diagnosed premalignant lesion of the eyes and adnexa was conjunctival intraepithelial neoplasia, and the malignant lesion was basal cell carcinoma. © 2023, Inonu University.
