Özet
The oral microbiome can initiate a range of bacterially driven diseases including caries and periodontal diseases. Among them, gingivitis and periodontitis are well-defined and common forms of periodontal diseases, being periodontitis is the progressive form of gingivitis and is associated with a range of systemic disease and driven by a hyperinflammatory phenotype. During periodontal inflammation, interleukin (IL)-1? activate endothelial cells and triggers adhesion of eosinophils increasing the inflammatory response. Several inflammasomes including Nod-like receptor (NLR) pyrin domain-containing protein 1 (NLRP1), NLRP2, NLRP3, NLR containing a caspase activating and recruitment domain (CARD) 4 (NLRC4) and Absent in melanoma 2 (AIM2) have been involved in the pathogenesis of periodontal diseases. Inflammasome modulation in diseases of the oral cavity is a potential novel therapeutic intervention for oral disease management. © 2023 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
