EXAMINING PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL MUSIC COURSE CURRICULUM IN TERMS OF ROOT VALUES

Values were included in the curriculum of all courses within the scope of the curriculum renewal studies of the Ministry of National Education and the Board of Education in the 2017-2018 academic year, classified as 10 root values “justice, friendship, honesty, self-control, patience, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism, helpfulness”. This list aims to identify the areas and events where the 10 root values are included in the content of the title of the primary school (grade 1-8) and secondary school (grade 9-12) Music Lesson Curriculum and in the program's portables. In this study, the complementary analysis method, a qualitative research aid, was used. The explanations regarding the content and usability of the titles in the primary school (grade 1-8) and secondary school (grade 9-12) Music Curriculum have a 10-root value framework. The analyzed data were analyzed using a descriptive analysis approach and presented visually in tables. As a result, it was seen that the content of the program titles emphasized all 10 root values and the most emphasized value section was "responsibility". It has been observed that the most emphasized value in the Music Lesson Curriculum is the value expression of “responsibility”, but the value expressions of “justice” and “honesty” are not included at all. © 2025, Tolga Karaca.
