Özet
Öz: Tirotoksik periyodik paralizi hipertiroidizmin nadir bir komplikasyonudur ve hipokalemi ve kas güçsüzlüğü atakları ile karakterizedir Acil polikliniğimize başvuran bir erkek hastanın, zaman zaman tekrarlayan ve birkaç saat içinde düzelen, bacaklarında ve kollarında güçsüzlük yakınmaları mevcuttu. Anamnez ve laboratuar incelemeleri ile hastaya tirotoksik periyodik paralizi tanısı kondu. Tirotoksik periyodik paralizinin epidemiyolojisi, patofizyolojisi, klinik bulguları ve tedavisi gözden geçirildi.
Abstract: Thyrotoxic periodic paralysis is an uncommon complication of hyperthyroidism and characterized with the attacks of hypokalemia and muscle weakness. A male patient admitted to our emergency clinics had intermittent weakness in his upper and lower extremities which was resolving spontaneously in a few hours. Patient was diagnosed as thyrotoxic periodic paralysis depending upon laboratory examination and history. The epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation and therapy of this relatively rare disease were reviewed.
