Özet
The aim of this study is to examine the effects of the method of Response Interruption and Redirection on reducing the frequency of verbal stereotypical behaviors observed in individuals with ASD. One of the single-subject research designs, the ABAB design was used in the research. While the dependent variable of the research is verbal stereotypical behaviors observed in students with ASD, the independent variable is the method of interrupting the applied response and redirection. Based on the findings, it has been observed that the method of Response Interruption and Redirection reduced the frequency of displaying verbal stereotypical behaviors observed in children with ASD, therefore it had a favorable and long-lasting effect. Furthermore, it was found that mothers had favorable opinions. Results from previous studies also demonstrate that the method has considerably reduced the frequency of occurrence of verbal stereotypical behaviors observed in individuals with ASD, and it has a long-lasting effect. It is also observed that parents prefer this method. It was concluded that the RIRD method is an effective, permanent, and applicable method for the purpose of reducing the frequency of occurrence of verbal stereotypical behaviors —which in people with ASD can be quite intense. © 2024, Inonu University.
